“One man practicing kindness in the wilderness is worth all the temples this world pulls.” -Jack Kerouac
My View of Things:
I practice Hermit Zen as opposed to Temple Zen, meaning I spread my teachings around whenever I can, rather than trying to build a temple, start a community, or attract students. I want to share my practice with simplicity, sincerity and humility but I don’t offer all the services that a Buddhist temple may offer. I consider myself in the tradition of Zen lunatics like Han Shan and Ikkyu.
I continue to study and practice under different Buddhist teachers in several different traditions. I think that we should all think of ourselves as always learning.
When I joined the Dharma Winds Sangha as a Zen priest I was given the Buddhist name “QianMing Shakya”. QianMing means Supreme Clarity. Shakya is the title that ordained teachers are given in the Chinese Zen tradition.

This all really started because I love writing about Buddhism.
Writing about Buddhism is part of the path for me. As time went on, people started asking me to talk and teach about Buddhism. Talking about the dharma didn’t come naturally to me at first, but it’s part of my path now too. I love sharing what I’ve learned.
I am a Zen Priest and Dharma teacher in the Dharma Winds Zen Sangha
and the Order of Hsu Yun
I’m trying to offer many of the services people get at temples here, online.

Please Contact Me. I know teachers are hard to find and many people get a lot out of developing a relationship with a teacher.
I’ve been practicing since 2003. I’ve spent over 40 days on retreat.
Currently my main focus is on Meditation Practice as it was taught in the earliest days of the Chinese Zen (Chan) tradition.
I lead a meditation group called Fountain City Meditation
We meet outdoors in a public place every month and all are welcome.
I want to share my practice with simplicity, sincerity and humility but I don’t offer all the services that a Buddhist temple does. I consider myself in the tradition of Zen hermits like Han Shan and Ikkyu.
I’ve given public talks at The Inner Peace Buddhist Center, The Gaea Retreat Center, and Tam Bao Buddhist Temple. If you want me to come to your event, click Here
I started studying Buddhism in 2003, mainly focused on overcoming my own suffering.
From 2010 until 2014 I ran the Dharma School program there, teaching kids about Buddhism (including my own).
In 2012 and 2013 I trained as a Zen Monk in the Five Mountain Zen Order.
In 2014 I went through lay teacher training through the Richard Hunn Association for Ch’an Studies. I took the Mahayana Precepts from the Brahmajala Sutra and became a teacher in the Tsaotung Ch’an tradition.
In 2018 I became a Zen Priest in the Dharma Winds Zen Order, an online network of Zen hermitages.
